Below are images for a project in development. I have used grasshopper in Rhino to create a weave generator tool that can be applied to any surface. As of now the pattern consists of a simple over and under logic but can be updated to allow for different methods of woven structures.

This builds on the last screen exercise. The grasshopper definition generates a folded surface consisting of planar pieces with local hinge connections. A dynamic cut sheet is also generated to allow for easy transition to fabrication. By changing the distance and position of vertices between the two control surfaces, I can create a screen of variable depth and directionality. I am hoping this can become part of a deployable system that can rationalize complex surfaces into easily fabricated and installable structures.

The following images show the development of a surface modeling tool in grasshopper to create different aperture patterns based on the proximity to surface curves. The directionality of the surface projections are based on the vector from surface uv points and a common endpoint. The dimpled surface pattern is intended to be used for acoustic purposes.

The latest incarnation of the felt chair. This model proposes an expandable seat that can accommodate a variety of spatial and conditions. As the chair expands the resultant pockets create storage. As each pocket is filled the seat becomes increasingly stronger in compression.

Images of a chair project for work to create a chaise made from industrial felt. I realize Felt does not come with a car paint finish but one can dream. Not sure what the material restrictions are of Felt yet. Changes are sure to come.

Below are images of a project I have been developing at work to create a sectioning tool with the rhino plugin grasshopper. The model generates a contoured model of any object with the grain of the contours determined by a control line. Gaps between contours are also part of the model logic.

3D DEVELOPMENT

These latest series of renderings have attempted to incorporate our graphic strategy into three dimensional representation. Each of these "exhibits" attempts to recreate the sensory experience created when immersed in a museum atmosphere. Each exhibit attempts to condense a hyper real condition within a finite space through layering and composition of several 2d representations of 3d space. This style of representation was born out of the biological forms from earlier this semester which were derived from fungal and amphibious precedents. Each species is here shown in its natural environment as opposed to within the indexical vacuum of taxonomy.

Midterm Mayhem- Concert Hall

Here is our concert hall. This represents the connection of Nathan's Landscape Cells and Daniel's Structure and Volume Cells. Nathans Cell's provide the terrain and points of connections for Daniel's structural members and volume cells. The points of connection have evolved to create a system of pilote and pier programs with the concert hall suspended above.

A fly through from our midterm presentation of the Concert Hall Proliferation...

I have worked on developing a rendering aesthetic for the concert hall cells that blur the line between a fabricated and organic aesthetic. Because of the amphibious nature of our formal proposal these renders are attempting to recreate the aesthetic of aquariums and terrariums as hyper-real micro-ecologies.

Below is content from our Midterm Presentation...

The graphic strategy for the map was to use 2d graphics to show the treefrog aesthetic we are trying to cultivate. Our site strategy developed the coast as a promenade and marina program to reintegrate the disparate elements of the more developed city to the east and the less developed region to the west. The gesture from the south-eastern portion of the site was intended to use the elements of urban dissonance (in this case the walmart" as a point of new formal proliferation.

We are now looking at further pushing the relationship between our cell proliferation and water by including water program on the site and having the cells develop according to program provided by site specific water program.

Proliferated Cells on a Volumetric Substrate. The Cilla Cells are now weaving together to create a network for future proliferation of cells, or at a larger scale circulation.

This Series shows the delicate nature of the connections between cells. There seems to be potential for using the resulting fenestrations in an architectural context.

This map combines Daniel and Nathan's modeling strategies. Here collage is used as a tool for urban planning, creating a plan-view graphic that will inform future strategies. Note that the Wall*Mart near the park, as a point of urban dissonance, becomes the origin for the propagation of the new structures which are intended to reunite the city with the park. Our color-scheme is meant to reflect our graphic sensibility for the project: urban treefrog in a neon jungle.

Below are the latest developments in studio to create more sophisticated cell behavior for deployment on the site. These were made using the same technique of creating a scaffold and micro cell relationship.

Different effects created with the landscape Cell. Created by using the original iteration as a module that is deformed by a lattice. I am using these iterations as a form-finding technique to be duplicated through the technique I have been cultivating.

The first two taxonomies are intended for macroscale development, creating a scaffold for the proliferation of micro cells.

The third taxonomy shows a micro cell that deforms according to parameters I determine, to create different architectural conditions.

Studio Ruy/Klein - Flower Morphologies Fall 2007

Early studies investigating the relationship between geometry and color, looking specifically at flower morphologies for inspiration.

The final proposal for a seed bank used the surface articulation techniques I developed to create distinct programmatic moments. Color was used to index these moments to guide potential users.

First pass at developing a parasitic cell relationship capable of transitioning from volume to landscape. The cell is modeled after the biological form and function of Cillia. The ultimate goal would be to implement a system of these Cillia based spaces on the site that could stimulate programmatic flow.

First attempt at using the same techniques to develop a volume. My hopes are to calibrate the Cillia cells to create more articulate architectural conditions.
